Ok all I really need your help!

I have a beardie, prob 5-6mo 97g. Viv 40gal tank with reptisun 10.0 UVB, basking 100, cool side 80. Everything in the tank has been removed due to him not being able to use his back legs so he would flip over. Vets diagnosed him with a bone infection in the spine. He’s been getting oral calcium 0.08 for a month, melodically 0.01 for 12 days, and ceftazidime injections every 3 days for the past month. He’s still alert, and eats, he doesn’t poop on his own. He will only do it in the bath and only at hot temps. We’ve been back and forth with multiple vets. Is this a sign he should be euthanized?? Has anymore had a beardie with something similar who made a recovery?

My beardie almost exclusively waits until his baths to poop, so that in itself wouldn't be a reason to consider euthanasia. I would say with what you describe, you may have a "special needs" beardie right now, but if it was my dragon & there were no obvious signs of pain with everything else as you describe, I certainly wouldn't be considering it. Euthanasia to me is a last resort in cases where the animal (beardie or otherwise) is obviously suffering and has no chance of recovery. Do the vets you've spoken to say that he has a poor prognosis?

I would think that with high quality lighting and good diet he could bounce back. They're tough little guys and can survive a lot and thrive with good care. If he's alert and eating then that's a sign that he is still fighting to survive. Hopefully his infection is beaten by the antibiotics and his bones will form properly going forward. That's where the high quality UVB and good diet come into play. If he isn't stressed by the baths, you can keep offering those as well.

So I took him to a specialist and the doctor stated it might be Atadenovirus? But my research on that doesn’t look like my dragon at all. She then stated this is as good as it gets and I should consider quality of life at this point. It was nice for her to explain everything (he most likely won’t ever regain use of his legs, will always be on medication, etc) but he doesn’t seem upset, or stressed. He has been gapping at me a lot lately so maybe that’s him being upset? He hasn’t shown stress lines or had a black beard either. I don’t know what to do at this point.

Hi there, the fact that he's still eating despite all he's going through is a good sign. :) How much and what does he eat ? I really think the vet is confusing MBD with an infection, the poor dragon is putting up with injections that he may not need. How did they determine a bone infection ? And I think you made a typo when you wrote melodically 0.01 for 12 day. What was that meant to be, maybe dewormer ? I see no reason to put him down unless he's suffering though. To give him a little variety in his tank, get a piece of fleece to roll up like a small hill for him to climb n, he'll feel like he has at least a small basking area. Can you post pics of your little guy ? Here's how :

Yea it was a typo. I’ll try a rolled up towel, it’s Meloxicam 0.01 for about 12 days for pain relief. But he’s a small little guy not really gaining weight at all. The specialist said he needs at least another 20grams on his frame. I feed him mainly Pheonixworms, and Dubia Roaches (as much as he wants) plus dandelion root, bok choy, organic baby food squash, and now carnivore care to help him gain more weight back. They determined a bone infection through an X-ray- show low density in a spot on his spine, Osteomyelitis I think? So I have another month of antibiotics to give as well.

Forgot to attach a picture, I try to have something in the cage while I’m at home to monitor him.
