Why is my beardie's head shaking vigorously?

I have had Mushu for just over a week now. He is just a baby. He ate a few crickets at first then stopped eating for 3 days then I got him some meal worms just to try, I know these are not good for him, he ate 4 in a row and that was Sunday evening. He has not eaten since. He is in a 40 gallon breeder tank Has a 100 watt basking light and a 10.0 repti ubv light. His basking temp is 107 and the cool spot is 86. I give him greens and veggies everyday but wont eat that either. He has a water dish. I have tried baths. His head started to shake vigorously today as if he was cold or having a seizure and he is sleeping a lot. I tried giving him a bath today and his head was shaking again and he went stiff and I could almost not wake him. I thought he was dead. Here is some pics of the set up and Mushu.

Is your repti sun a coil bulb or long flouresent tube?
Coil bulbs of any kind are not good...your set up looks good...
The only thing i can see is that there is no flouresent tube UVB....REpti-sun 10.0
flouressent tube is what you want it looks like a fishtank bulb.
Pet mountain.com $25.00.....i would shut off the coil bulb till you get your flouresent they can cause all sorts of problems.
I also see your using a stick on thermometer those can be way far off and his temps could be higher then you think.
You want an accurite probe thermometer walmart 12.00
PLEASE shut off coil bulb.
100 watt is alot of heat....i use a 40 watt or a 60watt in a 70gallon and temps are good....your 40gallon is alot shorter and does not require a 100watt bulb.
Just use a regular household bulb and get the repti sun tube...i think you may see a big improvement.
Congrats on the new baby and try not to stress too much ....you will learn alot here as wee all have started new also.
OH and do not feed any more meal worms crickets no bigger then the space between his eyes...and butter worms...also do not leave any crickets in his viv as they will bite him.
Keep asking questions...thats why we are all here...to share and learn. :)

It is a coil but I could not find a tube when i was shopping for one. Because another post I posted about him not doing good I did not have a uvb. Now I have put over 350.00 into Mushu and he's going to have to wait for a tube light for now. I do not have a stick on thermometer that is the humidity checker. I have a digital with a probe. I had a 75 watt and it would not get over 80 degrees so I got the 100 watt. He will not eat anything. i am going to try baby food that I bought earlier today. Any thing about that? type, brand? I think after he ate the meal worms he threw up because it did not look like poo. It was all meal worms. He is still pooping like crazy so he shouldn't blocked right? Shouldn't i just use that ubv until I can get a tube because he needs the uvb right?

I need HELP!!
Mushu is very sick (I think). His head is shaking now. I was reading that this could be a vitamin C deficiency. I cannot get him to eat anything. Everything is fine with his cage. I posted earlier. To see his set up refer to post that says "Please help my beardie is not eating" I do not know what else to do, I have a feeling he is going to die. All he does is sleep, he doesn't move around to much and he wont eat. Going on day 4 tomorrow.

I am just afraid that the coil bulb is doing more harm then good.Throwing up and shaking are very bad signs.

No. I check the temps all day long though. Also I have it at 107 and he will not go up there but when it is in the 90s he will. Otherwise he stays on a lower rock or goes under the log like he does not like the heat.

Hello,

How old is your dragon? Is he less than 3 months old?
The vigorous shaking is most likely metabolic bone disease or a neurological problem. Have you taken him to a vet yet?
What brand of coil/compact is your UVB? Unfortunately, compact/coils are not strong enough to stimulate D3 synthesis in bearded dragons "most" of the time. How far away is the UVB from him? Is there screen between him & the light? I realize you have only had him for a week, but if he was not kept under any UVB before you got him, he has not had any for most of his life. It really can affect his overall health & he will succumb to metabolic bone disease which is calcium deficiency. He most likely does not have a vitamin C deficiency.
He could also be slighly impacted also, since mealies can cause impaction as well. I would try getting some tiny crickets & some chicken or turkey baby food to feed to him, mixed with some squash baby food. Are you using calcium supplementation 5 times per week?
I am going to merge both of your topics, so we can keep all of your information in the same place. We can help you more effectively like that.

I got him from Pet Supplies Plus they are not sure how old he is but they said younger than 4 months. I have not taken him to the vet and was unaware that they had to go to the vet until recent studies. I have a coil ubv and its brand is Repti 10.0. The screen is between him and the light. They did have a ubv light on him at the pet store. I only feed him the mealies once and I believe he threw most of them up. I have tried crickets, baby food, mealies, wax worms. I am going to order repti worms. I have a calcium powder that I use on everything. Last night he did the head shaking thing again then was flipping around like he was convulsing then he threw up. Today I tried the wax worms and he seemed like he wanted it, went after it started to eat it then quit. Last night too it seemed like his mouth was stuck open but I think he was doing that because he was going to puke. Some guy from the pet store that owns beardies is suppose to be calling me back today or tomorrow about this little guy, he was taking care of him there.

Please shut the light off....put the probe wire end on his basking spot and get temps...i think you may need a vet.

Hello,

Well, most likely they were using the Reptiglo products for the lighting at the store as well. Those lights are plain garbage, unfortunately. They do not emit strong enough UVB for bearded dragons.
You will need to get a Reptisun 10 tube bulb, as soon as you can. He will not be able to absorb any calcium without being exposed to UVB lighting. At this stage, he is extremely critical & if he does not get some type of immediate care, he is not going to make it.
Remember also, that screen will filter out approximately 30% of the UVB depending on the width of the screen.
Was he housed on calcium based sand at the pet store?
Where is the digital probe placed? Directly underneath of the basking spot?
I agree, for a 40 gallon tank, a 100 watt light would be pretty overbearing in heating. Can you recheck your temperatures for us? How close is the basking light to him?
As far as dusting the food for him, he only needs a good dusting, once daily, 5 times per week. Now if he doesn't eat at that meal, then of course, you will need to dust again to try & feed him.

I do not know about the sand but it was blue like crystals. I have the digital probe placed right where he basks and now I am keeping it on at all times to monitor it. I lowered his basking spot. I talked to a breeder today and they told me high 90s. It was at 107 and they said that was too hot and it kinda makes sense because he would not get up there when it was that hot or he would pant if he did, now he will stay up there but not even for very long. He is about 8-10 inches from the lights. I have been bathing him every night and that seems to wake him up otherwise he sleeps all day. Is it a defense mechanism to close his eyes and act asleep or stiff like when I approach him? I ordered him some Repti worms today; hoping he will eat them and if not I can get him some hornworms? from a local pet store; they told me that beardies love them. He's more awake during the night. I am working on getting him a ubv tube and I dust everytime I feed since he wont eat.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
