I’m am new here and I’m setting up a Bearded Dragon enclosure that I have made out of wood with sliding glass doors. The enclosure is 42 inches wide 27 inches tall and 22 inches deep. I was told that I should not use a powersun bulb, because my enclosure is made out of wood and it might get too hot.. I have good venting in the enclosure, so would this be true or faults? So I guess I’m asking, can I use a zoo med 100 W powersun bulb for my heat source and UVB lighting in a wood enclosure ?

Depending on the wattage it might get too hot, however MVB's are the worst at properly heating really anything so I doubt it. For my tegu I have to get her basking spot up to 10-8 inches away from a 160 watt MVB bulb to even reach 100.

Me personally I'd just use a regular heat lamp to get it to correct temps and then a 34" Reptisun 10.0 T5 HO, or arcadia D3+ 12% or 14% uvb bulb with a fitting reflective fixture and mount it inside near the basking spot.

Thanks VenusAndSaturn, that helps a lot. I think I’ll go with that.....

I agree that it's easier to balance UVB output and temperature using a T5 and a separate basking light in the main enclosure. I doubt the bulb would get hot enough to cause a problem for the wood but bringing basking temps up at the appropriate distance for UVB output may be a challenge as mentioned. I prefer to use the MVBs as portable lights for outside the tank and for travel.
