"Effective to a specified distance" DOES NOT mean this is the optimum distance from UV source to the basking spot , effective to distance x means ONLY that UVB will be measureable at distance x.

The optimum UVB distance will be somewhat closer than the distance x.

For example a 26W UVB200 globe :
.......Effective Distance up to 40 inches ==> 4 microW UVB / sqcm
.......At a distance of 24 inches ==> 10 microW UVB / sqcm
.......A good distance for beardies is 6-8 inches ==> 160 - 90 microW / sqcm.

Many people fall into this trap and mistakenly think they have their UV source set up perfectly in their vivs because they have mounted the UVB source inside the EFFECTIVE DISTANCE but a long way away from the OPTIMUM DISTANCE for the species of reptile they have, resulting the reptile receiving much less UVA and UVB than it needs to be active and healthy and to thrive.

I agree, some of the recommended distances are a bit too far , but 6" is probably too close . Ten inches is probably better so it's not shining right near the dragon'eye.

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
