Emergency preparedness - power outage

We've been living here in Indiana for a bit over a year and luckily only had short outages, mainly long enough that we have to reset all the clocks. But I want to make sure we're prepared in case we have something longer, especially in winter.

I was thinking of drilling holes in a latching plastic bin, and stocking up on hand/ foot warmers. I figured the bin would be small (10 gallon or a tad bigger) but hold heat better, especially if we wrap sleeping bags around it, making sure to allow for ventilation.

I figure as a family we would wait out a winter outage for maybe 24 hours unless bitter cold. Summer maybe 48 before we stay somewhere with power.

Any one else have a power outage emergency kit, and what is your setup?

My emergency set up isn't that great but I had to use it once for my frog, as I didn't have Devlyn yet. Fireplace room, gas powered fireplace so getting an even temp isn't too hard. Frog in a small critter keeper with damp paper towels, fake plants, water dish. Regular reptile thermometer inside the keeper. Had a probe nearby to get ambient air temps. We survived overnight that way. I do have either a XL critter keeper Devlyn can fit in for temporary placement or a big tupperware. Would do a similar set up with the fireplace room.

The other back up plan I have is packing up to my parent's house because they now have a generator.

(edit - This is just a plan for cool and winter months. I don't have a summer plan for any extended power outage, which is unlikely, but I would hoof it to my parent's house with her lights and other stuff)

You can buy gas powered generators for around 200-300 dollars and they will more than be able to run some lights and even keep your phones charged. Just have a couple extension cords on hand, and you are set.

Another option would be one of those computer battery back up packs. They usually can store enough of a charge that they can power a heat lamp for awhile.

I use a computer UPS for my lights and it works well for short outages. It keeps the lights going for a few hours at least. For longer outages it's good to have some hand warmers or reptile shipping warmers etc on hand during the winter months. It's less of an issue in the summer when the ambient temps stay pretty warm. It's good to have a supply of fresh water and food on hand. Jars of baby food can be helpful but those are really only needed in extreme cases during an extended emergency.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
