what kind of wood?

I am wanting to build a cage because the reptile one is harder for my son to get in. I think it would be easier if it opened in the front. What type of wood can I use?? Thanks!

Anything besides Pine or Cedar is okay to use And use a water based sealer to seal it.

So any sealer that is water based is considered safe?? What about staining or painting before I seal?? What would I use? Thanks!!

You want a paint or stain thats labeled "NO VOC" or "LOW VOC"... Mini wax makes water based stains. Then seal over it with the water based sealer and let it air out for a week or 2. Make sure its cured and you cant smell any fumes or anything and your good to go
