Thermostat help pretty please

I bought a thermostat to go in Wilso's cage since he is more susceptible to overheating being a silkie. HOWEVER when I hooked up his basking light it stays on a few minutes and off a few minutes ALL the time. Is the on and off ok? Or should I hook that up to a CHI and then just have a reg light in the cage someplace else that is not for heat to prevent eye damage from the UVB light.

Try a lower watt bulb, or use a fixture with a dimmer switch. Thermostats are a nice failsafe, but you're better off getting the temps right before you install it.
