Switching to Dubias!

Ok I just invested in my first starter colony. I am a little nervous as I hope I can keep them going. We have a 10 gallon rubbermaid container with multiple screen vents, CHE, egg crates, water crystals, chow, good ratio of males to females (3:1). I just got so tired of the crickets smell, jumping, cost and just inability to "fill" my babies up.

Can anyone share their experiences good or bad switching from crickets to dubia?

I appreciate it! :D

I was in a similar situation as you currently were, and I can say you're making the right choice. :)

I was feeding my lizard small crickets that I bought from my LPS. They got expensive and smelled terrible. I knew I would never end up breeding them because they were just a mess and hassle to take care of. I did my research and bought a small colony of Dubia to breed.

To this day I have no complaints nor regrets. They're much cleaner than crickets, have literally zero odor, don't chirp at night, don't jump around, don't infest the house, easier to grab, low maintenance, low cost, and not to mention they're packed with more nutrients than crickets. The only thing crickets do better is give you a damn headache and a room that smells like...you get the point.

I was like you before the switch...thinking if they actually live up to the hype. And I say confidently, they really do. You'll be surprised. :D

Thanks so much for the reply. I spent half the night researching the dubia and I think it will be a good investment.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
