I got my beardie at the beginning of January from a family that could no longer keep him. After reading about brummation in these forums, I believe that he's been in brummation for as long as I've had him. He eats every day and poops every day when he takes his soak in the bathtub, and seems like he is getting more active lately.
Last week, after his daily soak, he had what I first thought was a prolapse coming out of his vent, but when I started looking at it, it came out/off, (I thought I'd broken off some little body part!!) and after reading about it, it looks like a sperm plug. He seemed much more alert after it came off. This week, we had a second one so I was not nearly so freaked when I saw it. Again, he seems more alert after it came off.
So as I understand it, is this a normal thing that happens as they come out of brummation and start getting ready for breeding?
If so, how many of these plugs do they have? I think they have 2 hemipenes, so would 2 be the answer? Otherwise, he seems to be doing ok, and the appetite seems to be increasing. Thanks!
