Shedding shouldn't be a problem. If the shedding takes more than a month, I would suggest giving your beardie a bath. This should move the shedding along. Also, cute shedding pics.Hey all,
While being a member of this forum for a few months I've seen quite a few posts concerned for their dragons that turned out to be shed. While holding Richter tonight, I noticed he is shedding basically all his extremities to various degrees and thought maybe some visuals would help those starting out. Below are some photos of sheds in progress with flash and no flash.
It's worth noting dragons shed in patches, not full body like a snake. This may be small patches, large patches, or even full body pieces at a time.
Foot shed, in patches. Almost completed!
Hand shed, in patches. Just starting
Tail shed, just the end. Just about done
Head shed, no flash on this one because I didn't want to blind him. Shed is complete and shiny, should be popping off any day now.
Here are some older photos of the same dragon, showing how different their sheds can be
I am unsure how helpful this would be to anyone, feel free to add your own shed photos as a resource.
Enjoy the dragons, all!
This was VERY helpful, thank you so much!Hey all,

When the lighting and temps are correct, shedding seems to happen naturally but I've seen others assist with shedding. I assisted Rocky the last time that he shed just to see how he would react and he appreciated it as it helped him not have to rub it off himself. Take a very soft toothbrush during bathtime and go for it gently. Please pay attention to your beardie's reaction. So newbie here, when they shed, are you supposed to help them or brush off pieces of the shed for them or leave them completely alone?
Also a newbie question, how do you bathe them? He has water in his cage but I should be regularly bathing him? With what kind of soap? When the lighting and temps are correct, shedding seems to happen naturally but I've seen others assist with shedding. About once or twice a week should be enough if the humidity is right. Just use a container big enough for him and put warm water in, water not above his elbows. You can take a soft bristle toothbrush and scrub him if he got dirty. No soap needed!
Like said after me, I take a tub and fill it with water to his elbows. I don't use soap- just water but there is Shed ease (eze?) that I have available. I let Rocky soak for 20 minutes. It worked wonderful months ago....now I am happy if I get 10-14 minutes.
