Rex is a jumper

So i've had my beardie for about a week now. Very active and very curious. Until two days ago he/she just raced around. Now Rex is starting to climb around in his viv. I've got a couple of those magnet rocks and some hammocks that I set up. I guess it only took Rex a couple days to get used to the spacing of each item because at least 2 or 3 times a day I catch my beardie jumping from rock to rock to hammock then on top of my feeder and then he/she repeats it. It's quite entertaining to watch.

So anyways, Rex absolutely loves watching the screen when I play Left 4 Dead 2. Tries to climb on the screen and licks the keys on my keyboard as i'm playing. I let him/her out on the computer desk while i'm playing for some quality bonding time. Well today, during a map change I happened to look down at Rex who was tilting his/her head back and forth looking straight at me. Then out of nowhere Rex just lunges at my headphone mic and clings on for dear life and just chills there for a couple seconds, then jumps back onto my keyboard.

Anyone else have any similar stories? Rex is about 3.5 months old I think. Not sure of the sex yet. Although i'm leaning toward male. Gotta wait a couple more weeks I guess to figure out its gender. Rex is currently wrapped up in his blankie in his viv. Had a nice hour long nap on my chest as I watched a movie before I put him/her back in the viv.

LOL! Welcome to our forum, and Congratulations on your new little one! It's really very hard to say what caused him to jump on your headphone like that.....possibly something on your computer screen may have scared him, or he may have just wanted to be closer to you, or to check out what that funny looking thing was on your head  It certainly sounds like you have a healthy, very active baby there!

They are so cute when they're still very small like that, and are still trying to figure out the world around them, however, you need to watch and supervise him very carefully when he is out of his tank, to make sure that he doesn't hurt himself, or even worse, disappear on you, if you don't watch him very carefully. They are very intelligent little guys, but most of them don't have much sense when they're still babies, and they can get in all kinds of trouble if you don't watch them every single minute.

Never carry him around with you, without keeping your hand over his back, especially if you are standing up and walking around with him. All three of mine, at that age, thought they could fly, and if I didn't keep my hand over their backs while walking around with them, and they saw something that interested them, or that they were curious about, and wanted to investigate, they would jump right off my shoulder into thin air to get to it! Thankfully we had soft carpeting, with a thick pad on our floors, so none of them got hurt ,before I learned to keep a hold of them while walking around with them. Thankfully, by the time they're about 6 months old, they do develop some sense, and most of that sort of behavior stops.

Also, if you allow him to run around on the floor, don't take your eyes off of him for an instant, because they can disapear so fast that its ridiculous, and it can sometimes take you hours to find them! They can get themselves in the smallest, weirdest places that you've ever seen, such as up inside your couch cushions, under loose floorboards, etc. If you do let him run around the house, I would advise investing in a reptile harness, and tying a long, brightly colored piece of ribbon on the end of it. That way, if he crawls under something and goes to sleep, the ribbon will stick out from under your furniture, and show you exactly where he is!

One of our members didn't find hers for 3 days, and when she did, she found that he'd burrowed down under some clean laundry in her clothes basket and went to sleep! LOL

Another one of our members lost his, who was an adult at the time, and couldn't find him for hours. He finally found him sound asleep on top of the drapes on the curtain rod at the top of the picture window in his living room, and actually posted a picture here on the forum, titled "Where's Waldo", showing everyone where he was. He had climbed up the back of the drapes, found a comfy spot, and was up there, sound asleep, while his owner was having a nervous breakdown trying to find him!

Life is never dull with a beardie.....most of them are way too intelligent for their own good, so watch him carefully! Also, be forwarned, the little stinkers are just like potato chips......no one can have just one!

Best of luck with him, and if you are ever in need of any advice, or have any questions concerning his care, just post and everyone here will be glad to help!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
