Question about puffing

I got my first beardie June 30. I'm assuming he was a month old when we got him? He was tiny, we got him from PetSmart.
Anyway, I was wondering at what age can beardies puff out their beard? The other day, my Oscar was trying to puff... you could tell. He flatenned his body and his neck was puffing in an out but he couldn't make a full beard. Then he looked like he just gave up. Is that normal? Is he still too young to puff? (We were vacuuming, and I think he didn't like the noise.)

Sometime they only do partial beards. He should be able to do a full on beard, but they really have to feel threatened. The beard will actually turn black, and it takes a few minutes for the black to go away, even after the beard is gone.

Our dragon will puff himself up when he's about to shed. He'll flap his beard half way out over and over, and you can actually watch his body fill up with air, like a balloon! haha. He'll hold his breath for a while, stretching out his skin to shed.

Yeah, it's normal for them to puff in little spurts. Miss Buddy did it a lot when she was younger, I still catch her doing it time to time.
I asked about it a long time ago, some guys said it was like little exercises. lol

I think it all just depends on personality... 1 of our dragons puffs all the time, little puffs while you are talking to her like she is talking back. All 4 of them puff out full beards to stretch them without them turning black, our youngest one tried to puff for a long time when he was very little but always broke the seal on his mouth so he couldn't stay puffed up. (he finally figured it out). And of course all of them have had a full black beard when they have caught a peek at one another through their vivs.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
