they have been in the viv all day whith the greens. I have buttworms that my beardie did not eat. Is it safe to put them back in the fridge with out contaminating the rest? I hate to throw them out.
Hmmm....good question. I would think it would be alright-----I don't butterworms are as delicate as silkworms------silks you cannot put back in because they bruise very easily and can spread bad bacteria that will kill off all the others------I think it would be alright.
Perhaps a seperate container for the butter worms that will be returned is a safe bet. Human hands are remarkably dirty, and transplanting potential feeders back into the mother colony brings along with it several risks. There are various species of bacteria on human hands that can and will kill roaches, and several species of worms. I have no first hand experience with butter worms though!
Thanks guys. I did put them back into an empty butterworm container I had. I guess I need to hand feed until I know they will eat them from a dish. Harley has been on a small hunger strike since I brought in the 2nd dragon last week. Just in case you wonder they are in seperate viv's.
Brunoboy I have about 100 butters but I only had 4 to put back. Maybe I'm being to stingy with them.
I have to agree with Bestroach here, if you need to remove them and save them for another day, keeping them seperate from the "mother" colony is absolutely best. I never take uneaten feeders that have been placed in a cage and put them back with the main colony. They either get exterminated, or seperated and saved for the next day.
I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
