This is my new bearded dragon, hes about 6 months so ive been told and is 6" long, ive had geckos in the past but this is my first bearded dragon. Ive done research on feeding, heating etc.. From what ive read i think im doing everything right so far.
Im using a heat mat and also a uv light for heat and basking one side of the viv. Left space for him to run one side to another and have plenty of climbing options.
This is my viv size
24" (60CM) X 16" (40CM) X 16" (40CM)
How long would people think this would last him? 6 months? A year?
Any advise and pointers would be great.
Thanks

It's easier to post a video than type it all out. First, get rid of the substrate and use paper towels, non-adhesive shelf liner, or tiles. You can get these at Lowe's or Home Depot. Loose substrate causes impaction.

Get rid of the heat mat. Beardies like to bask. Get an infrared heat gun as mentioned in the video to measure basking temps.

I don't think he is 6 months, maybe 6 weeks.

The second video is on feeding.

You will need a cage longer than 24 x 16 x 16. An adult needs no less space than a 40 gallon breeder tank.

Hello I saw your post just now and there are some issues. You said that your using a uv light for heat but uv lights don't give off heat you need a basking bulb probably 75 Watt or I use a 100 Watt and also you should get a reptisun 10.0 tube uva bulb so thats 2 seperate lights one for heat and one for basking and they need to be both on the same side and from your pic I can see that it's not even close to as bright as it should be the whole tank should be lit up completely. Also you said you are using a heat mat and you should get rid of that ASAP beardies can't feel how hot there bellys can get and could result in Burns a lot of us on this site frown upon them. The last thing is I see you have a stick on thermometer for temps that thing you are using can be as much as 20 degrees off high or low I would recommend getting a probe thermometer or a temp gun because the temps needs to be right for your little guy to have energy and alertness. I'm not an expert but if changes aren't made your little guy is gonna suffer.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
