Just joined after several days of surfing & enjoying this site.Til 2 yrs ago when I became too disabled to work, I was a vet tech at a hospital for 8 yrs that has an exotics vet.Since none of the other techs was interested, he trained me.I am nearly a Sr citizen but don't feel or act it!!My first lizard 9 yrs ago was a pair of baby beardeds that were supposed to be male & female tho it wasn't a promise cause they were so small.At 2 1/2 years when they never did the deed, tho they showed signs of wanting to breed, I took them to Doc to be sexed cause I thought they were males.Yep!They are.I was just lucky they never tried to fight.Now they each have their own 75 gal breeder tank with 2 girlfriends. Again no fighting.They bask on top of each other.If I take only one out to bathe,the other 2 will get upset til I bring the other back.Also thru the hospital I rescued 9 different iguanas over the past 8 years.Owners would bring them in but didn't want to pay a bill to fix a critter they paid $10 for.They would tell him to euthanize & he'd ask me if I had room to take them.I always made room.I made a couple of huge wood & wire cages. Rehabbed them and found new parents for them. 2 were rescues from Katrina.Parents lost homes & couldn't keep an ig in a FEMA trailer!One is staying with me til she dies.Has a 12" tail.Was housed with an alligator who bit her tail.Got infected. Had to be amputated. She is so sweet.I 1/2 yrs ago I went to buy a beardie from a local girl.She had a new clutch of 20 eggs but didn't want to deal with it cause she had just found homes for the previous clutch.So she gave them to me.19 out of 20 hatched.Everyone who got them from me was told if they didn't want to keep them later on, they had to bring them to me so they wouldn't go to anyone with no knowledge.I ended up getting 6 back cause they didn't want to deal with all the crickets even tho I had told them.I had already kept 3 of them.Total 11 adults now and 4 babies about 6 months.5yr granddaughter & I handle all of them 2 or 3 times weekly.All are healthy.Because of space I have put 2 females & a male in each 75 gal tank.I know that isn't ideal but works for us.I also have leopard geckos, uromastyx and turtles & tortoises.I still rehab turtles for the hospital.I also have 7 mini chihuahuas.5 are rescues.1 has 3 legs.Smallest is 1 lb 9 oz at 11 months.Had seizures with previous owner.Biggest is 5 lb. Husband is a truckdriver who thinks I am crazy to have so many critters.They keep me from being bored.Sorry this is so long. Just wanted to intoduce my family and me.

Wow that's quite a mini zoo you have going there - welcome to the board They must take a lot of time and energy to care for

Yes they do take a lot of my time but as I said I am disabled so I am home most days that I'm not in P Therapy.I clean 3 or 4 tanks each day so that by the end of the week they are all done.I check/clean all water dishes every day.I feed crickets every 3rd day except for the babies who are fed twice daily now.I feed veggies every other day.In good weather most of the turtles & torts are outside so I don't have to clean them,just change water every day.My biggest problem is to remember to change UVB bulbs when needed.This is really my only interest.Since my husband is on the road most of the time, I rarely go out except to visit my daughter & grandkids.I used to have a problem finding a sitter if I needed to be out of town for a few days.This past year I have trained my 5 yr granddaughter how to do the feeding.My daughter won't do it!But she reads the list of who gets what & Brea feeds them & hands my daughter water bowls to clean.Daughter won't put her hand in tanks!Brea has the love of animals like I do.Thanks for the welcome
