I always thought they cant really fly. Then I saw this
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MZhfGbI_r-c

How often does this happen?
Does it also sometimes happen if you reach in there to get one out?
Everything with wings kinda freaks me out :D same with large crickets. Spikey is not hig enough for large crickets but I think well also stick with medium crickets anyways :p
i just love worms. At least you can tell where theyre gonna crawl and catch them really easily :D

I'm somewhat dubious it's a male dubia. There are other roach breeds that look similar to male dubia that can fly. The fact the quality of the vid is pretty low doesn't help either. One of the comments says they do it quite a bit during hot summer months, so I can't say for sure since I got my dubia in November. But who knows? :) I'm an open and inquisitive guy; just becuase i havent personally seen it doesn't make it another type of roach. Maybe it's real but I've never seen them fly like that, only fluttering down to break their fall.

Once while I was cleaning out my dubia bin, I walked away from it to get something. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and turned back to the tub to see a male dubia hovering about 2 feet off the ground. It only was able to stay in the air for a few seconds but it was enough to make me absolutely certain to close the lid tightly.

I've also noticed that the male dubia are the ones to escape a dubia bin. I found 2 escaped males last year with my old colony when I kept it in my closet.

From what I've been seeing, the males are poor flyers but not no flyers.

Most of them only seem to be able to flutter and maybe change direction
a bit as they fall (ie falling with style).

However, a few rare ones do seem to be stronger and capable of actual,
short, flights.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
