Feeding too much?

Hello all,

I have had Medusa for several months, as a new beardie owner I use everything I read here to make her life good. When I first started feeding her I was using the ten minute rule. She can gobble up a hundred crickets in that time! Now she gets her greens in the morning about 15 or so crickets for lunch and about that in dubia for dinner, two hrs before lights out. She is gaining like crazy! She has put on 45 grams in a week. I am afraid of having a too fat beardie. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Also one more question. I ordered a bunch of dubia which did not make it alive. I put them in the freezer. Is it ok for her to eat them?

Thank you,
Anne and Medusa

How old is Medusa and how long is she?

Im not sure about the frozen dubias. I freeze crickets alive all the time and thaw and feed them but I guess it would depend on how long the dubias had been dead and if they had started decomposing yet.

She looks fine to me. That's pretty much how Harleys belly looks like and she's only 12 weeks old. As for freezing the dubias, i'd be on the fence about that. First why did they all die? Usually dubias are pretty tough. I'd contact whoever you bought em from and see about a new shipment.

She looks good to me too. When you talk about feeding, it's really hard to gague how much a dragon is eating based on numbers of feeders. My Ridley will eat 100 crickets too! If they're 1/4 inch. lol He will eat 30-40 3/4-1in crickets. It's really the weight of the feeders he's consuming that makes a difference. Dragons won't over-eat themselves to the point of harm (or at least no that I've heard). As long as she's getting lots of exercise, I'd let her eat her fill till she's mature.

Forgot to add - if the roaches weren't soft, sunken in, or had an off smell, they're probably fine. I too freeze feeders, or if I catch crickets that are about to expire, go ahead and freeze them to feed later so they're not wasted.

Just make sure to thaw them before feeding - and just sit them out and let them come to room temp (I set a cup of frozen bugs on top of the tank next to the heat lamp). Whatever you do, don't like microwave them or anything. lol

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am so glad to have this site as I want the best for my baby. She is a real sweetheart with her own personality.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
