I see lots of wonderful custom vivs for the BD, but it seems that everyone stores their roaches in the Rubbermaid boxes. I also see a ton of questions about problems with keeping the dubia container warm enough, presumably because of the thin plastic containers.
If we end up getting a BD, my plan is to make a stand to fit the viv. The stand will have two drawers in the front that will be where I contain the dubias (in a sort of slide out box). Rather than trying to find a rubbermaid box to fit, I'm planning on just making my own. Lowe's sells half sheets of melamine covered board (3/4 - 2'x8') for pretty cheap, iirc. The plan would be to make a box with a hinged lid, and maybe even wrap some 1" polystyrene insulation around it. I figure the total cost would be about 20$, and would solve any problems with maintaining temperature. I don't want to be running back and forth from where they are stored to the BD everytime they need to feed, so it seemed really convenient to have them all in one spot.
Any concerns with this idea? I'm assuming they won't be able to climb the melamine boards, and I'm hoping there wont' be any issues storing them so close to the BD. It may be tricky to initially set it up, but this would also allow me to use the "exhaust" air from the Viv to heat the dubias.
Am I forgetting about anything?

roach poo particles! I think cleaning the poo of any feeder is the worst part. I would try to make the drawer removable so you don't have to worry about a pooey vac!
