Worms with Dad by katiebread, on Flickr

Meet Clovis! Clovis came to our vet tech from a owner who did not care for him well. He is missing the tip of his tail and 2 of his toes. However, you can see he is quite the handsome boy; look at that orange on his face! We have 3 1/2 containers of extra-small phoenix worms left from our baby Bowser, who we had to put to sleep. Clovis will finish off these guys and we'll order bigger ones next time. This paper towel contained maybe 10-15 worms, which Clovis delicately picked off one by one.

Clovis is definitely the stomach on legs that I hoped Bowser would one day become. I think he wanted to eat my camera flash, so I turned it off and took turns with my husband feeding him kale. He gobbled it all up!

Clovis came with a tank, his stick, his favorite bowl, the reptile carpet, a clamp light, and a heating pad. Wow! Tomorrow I'm going to give his viv a good cleaning and put in his UVB light. The carpet provides good insulation from the heating pad, so I'll keep it in there for now. I want to get a temp gun to get the temps right so I don't have to mess with probes. The meat thermometer I have right now hates me, and the feeling is mutual.

The downside to the fun of feeding a beardie who was excited to eat was that we needed to let him bask so he could digest his good noms! Clovis was not pleased and ran all around his viv, trying to climb out. After 45-60 minutes I took him out for snuggling and floor time. He ran all over living room and kitchen, and scrabbled in protest when he was prevented from going under furniture or getting into mischief. He ended up falling asleep under my hair, even wiggling up to get in a better snuggle position. As a bonus, I didn't see too many stress marks on him while he was exploring! There were some faint black lines on his beard and belly but nothing like Bowser had, poor little guy.

I will update with pics of his viv once we have it set up properly, but we had a lovely first evening with our new boy and can't wait to play with him tomorrow! I bet he is already dreaming of worms and salads.

Clovis is handsome, reminds me of Des, from his face, markings and colors. I am glad he found a better home. Keep up the good work and keep us posted. :D

I'm so happy you found a new little beardie. And that he's a little eating monster is wonderful news !! Hopefully Mr Clovis will thrive in your loving hands :)

He definitely puts on his happier colors when he's out of his viv, scampering all over and licking the floor! Beardie running is so very comical. He likes to snuggle as well, but only after he's thoroughly explored. :)

Disclaimer: The only posing I did was making and holding on the hat. Clovis put himself in every other pose, including climbing onto the books when we weren't looking. Also, astute observers will notice two short fingers and a short tail. The vet tech who gave him to us thinks that his first owner did not care for him well. I think it looks like he's perpetually making the roll-n-roll symbol.

I took some fun travel pics of our Clovis when we took him home for Thanksgiving. I'll try to get them up tomorrow. Unfortunately he was skimmed over, but he finally shed today and his markings are even more striking! He had light colors and a white belly today during floor time. Even skimmed over he was a big hit with my family. Of course when he was on my lap my cousin asked if I was scared that he would poop on me. My husband said he had already done his business that day. Two seconds later I heard this tiny fart, looked down, and watched Clovis poop on my new pants and sweater.

Go figure.

He went back into his Tupperware after that.

I use tweezers with long, thin tips to give Clovis his buggies and stir up his salads. I do this because he does not have very good aim and I don't want him to accidentally nip my finger. I'm glad I use the tweezers, because now he lunges at them as soon as he sees them, noms or no noms! Sometimes he scrapes his little beardie teeth on them and I twinge. I hope he doesn't cut his mouth. :(

I don't have a scale to get his weight, but he has been loving his butternut squash this week! He's a little less enthusiastic about the endive, but he always makes a sizable dent in his salads. I cut up some cactus for him tonight, so tomorrow he will have that for the first time. I try to rotate through veggies every week and eat half of them myself! Cooked some butternut tonight and it wasn't half bad.

I'll try to post pics tomorrow!

Clovis's travel setup for the holidays, including the Thanksgiving salad with turkey baby food that he shunned.

Up close and personal, investigating the camera. I think he actually licked the lense. This might be my favorite Clovis photo yet!

Confined to Sweatshirt for Being Distractingly Cute by katiebread, on Flickr

Clovis scampering over his towel was so fun to watch that it was distracting the driver, so he was confined to my sweatshirt.

Thank you! He's such a fun guy. He had loose poop this morning, which I am hoping is from too much squash rather than parasites. Come on, happy poops!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
