Baby Beardie Feeding?

I have had a few other lizards before but I just got my beardie today. He is roughly 4 inches in length, but I don't know his exact age. My favorite breeder's store just went out business so I sadly had to get him at petsmart. I was told by the employee to feed him three small crickets every other day, but I know most people at pet smart don't know what they are talking about. I guess my question is, how much do you feed a young bearded dragon on a daily basis?

:x Your right its a shame they have no clue, he should be fed 2-3 times a day as many crickets as he will eat in 10-15 minutes, really no way to tell his exact age being that thats how they fed him, but at 4 inches maybe 1-3 months if even that old, they can eat 30-100 small crickets per day it all depends on your dragon. Also you will need to dust the crix with calcium powder 5 days a week and a multivitanin 2 days. I use rep-cal
calcium powder and herptivite multivitamin also made by rep-cal as do most people on this site thats how I know. Hope this helps gl and welcome to the site

Ok, will do. Since it's his first day he isn't really big on eating so far, but I got him to eat a few crickets. I already have the calcium powder and multivitamin for my other lizard but I'll make sure I put that on his crickets. Thanks for the helpful information. And after hearing how much they should be eating, that is probably the reason many people with bearded dragons have such malnourished ones if the pet stores are basically telling them to starve the lizard.

I fed him some crickets today and he already seems to be adjusted! He ate five the first time I gave them to him and four the next time. He must love eating crickets as apposed to what he was fed at petsmat.

He was probably starving. I just started working at petco and I've owned several pets in my lifetime. Unfortunately, most of the information given during training is either incorrect or out of date for a lot of animals they carry. It's amazing anything lives long enough to be bought. If getting a pet I would never recommend getting it from a petco or petsmart. Also, the carsheets they give people for bearded dragons says to feed mealworms as a staple and crickets. And that they like a humidity level at 50%. Being a desert animal I highly doubt that.

I normally wouldn't buy a pet at petsmart or petco. I got him the day they brought him in so I got him out of there very quickly. With the economy all of the mom and pop type lizard stores are going out of business.
This summer I want to work at pet smart, then I can properly take care of the reptiles they have there.

And I have been feeding him twice a day, giving him his crickets with calcium powder on them and I gave him some greens yesterday and he loved them. He is noticeable better but today I looked closer at his back right foot and two of his toes are bend to the right, he doesn't appear to be in any pain though.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
