okay so heres my delima. the cage we have (custom built) is a large cage 2ft/ 8 1/4ft by 2 ft tall. plexiglass front sliding doors and made of wood. the lighting is fixed on the inside of the cage. the problem is that the basking temp is great! but the ambiant temp (cool side is just too cold. I cant get a higher watt heat lamp cause then the basking temp would be too high i need advice on how to get the overall temp up in my cage. I was wondering if i would be able to mount a heating pad on the side of the tank where bindi wouldn't be able to burn himself but i don't know how well it will work. Looking for advice either on that idea or others that might help my problem.

Go for a low watt household bulb over head on the other side of your tank.
What is your basking temp?
It shouldn't increase it very much, if it all.
If it does increase, lower the spot or get a lower wattage bulb and raise the spot.

OK. So what if you got a higher wattage bulb and lowered the basking spot?

How many light fixtures are we working with here and where are they?
We can do it!! :D

this is the best i could get. you can see the basking spt on the left. its not very high. and i usually place it so the low side is directly under the light not the high side and on the right is the 24 in uvb bulb.

Ok.
New idea.
Do you have a similar vent on the cool side? You could try covering half of it... might help raise the temp on that side and I don't think it'd much affect the basking spot!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
