PLZ READ !! Zilla Desert Series UVB lights

Hello, for about a week now, I have been on a mission to figure out what was wrong with my 5 mos. old and 1 year old bearded dragon. After reading several posts on here, I figured out it was from using the Zilla Desert 50 series bulbs. My 5 mos. old developed Photo Kerato Conjunctivitis from these lights and both became very sick. I e-mailed Customer Service, Zilla directly to complain and tell him these bulbs are causing problems. They have e-mailed me telling me the bulbs should be the new stock that is out there, therefore, they are concerned why this is happening. They asked if I could find the receipt, they will refund the money back to me. They had said they have not been hearing complaints about them and were concerned. There were many people on here telling me there beardies have been sick using these bulbs. If you are using these bulbs and your beardie has become ill, please e-mail Zilla to let them know. Perhaps if more people would start e-mailing them, they will look into this.

Thats good they are taking responsibility and offering a refund, I also hope its true that they have actually improved their lights.

Well according to them, the NEW lights have been out for a few years. They are concerned that the pet stores are still using old ones. Yes, they have actually been very accomodating.

Those are the new bulbs, the ones they redid a few years back? What a joke. Zilla bulbs hardly put out any UVB then they redid them and now they put out too much uvb. They need to get with the program and make safe bulbs, what a bunch of *****s.
I really hope anyone who has had issues with zilla bulbs in the last few years will write to the company and complain. The only zilla bulbs on the market are the crappy old ones causing MBD or crappy new ones causing eye issues.

Hi Gail, I totally agree with you on this subject. You know how much trouble I have been having with my beardies and these bulbs. They are way expensive also. The guy who has been e-mailing me from zilla, sent me a picture of the NEW bulbs and packaging, I told him that is what they are selling in the stores? NEW ones? I told him there are alot of people out there having trouble with his bulbs. He said 'Dont believe everything you read". He told me that they did replace them a few years back and now supposedly they meet the UVB standard guidelines. I said, well, I guess I am the only one who actually put some time into this and complained to the company. That is why I think people need to log on to ZILLA website and go to contact and send this guy an e-mail telling him HE IS CRAZY !, I told him I do not have my receipts to return the bulbs and he said to go back to Petco or Petsmart and have them look up my receipt and he will accept a copy of that. Whatever !!!, I was so angry about this, I cannot believe no one else out there was as angry as me? Oh well, my little one is doing much better NOW that the bulbs are OFF !, Thank goodness. He still is not eating though, I am still giving Repta-Aid, I hope he eats soon. His little eyes are still a little red, but, at least he is opening them. How sad for them to have had to go through this !. BAD ZILLA !!!!!

You can get saline eye wash and use it on his eyes, it will help sooth them.

i emailed him too, he said if i sent it back they would test to see if it was a new one or an old one. i printed my petmountain receipt too. he said he'd replace it, but all i want is the hood fixture, i'll be buying reptisun 10.0 for my poor baby. i should have in the first place ><

i got him to eat or rather drink some blended kale, carrots, crickets, bit of chicken an some strawberry. he didnt eat the chunky bits, but he lapped up the juice. he's been peeking his eyes open every now and then, so i guess thats some improvement. I'd try that if you have a good blender or a magic bullet, as soon as he licked his nose when i drop some on it, he started lapping even though he wouldnt look.

I am glad you e-mailed him also, I have the zilla hood fixture and recently ordered the repti sun 10.0. I cannot find my receipt from Petco to take the Zilla UVB back tho. (Oh well). My little one just start opening his eyes, it was such a wonderful things to see. Although, he is not eating. I have been feeding Repta-aid for the loss of calories. The blended stuff sounds good, Iwill try that. At least he is lapping it up for you, mine wont even eat anything! Everyday I keep looking for my repti sun UVB at my door (cannot wait to get it). i'll probably take his replacement hood, but i dont think i'll use their light is they give me another one. Since reptisun is better, but that means 20-40 more to spend :/, oh well

Well, I ordered just the light from Petmountain it was about $28.00, When I originally purchased the Zilla hood and light it was way more than that. Just a shame, I have to basically throw the bulbs away since I cannot find my receipt. But, at least, I found out what was wrong. Actually, I am 100% sure that it was from those bulbs that he got sick. When I turned the bulb off in a few days he began to get better. I think I will try blending all those veggies up tonight for my little guy. I have to put in a syringe and feed him, he wont eat on his own. Oh Boy! the things we do for our dragons

Yea, charizard actually wouldnt take any the second time around. so i dangles a cricket in his face, when he peeked open to see he ate it. missed a bit though, but he ate a few more along with some greens.

Poor thing, like I said, at least he is eating. I tried to feed mine yesterday and I cant even PRY his mouth open to eat, its awful. I think I bruised his little mouth by trying to feed him. Are you giving Charizard repta-aid at all, since he is not eating? or does he seem to be eating enough. I am curious, did you just recently buy the Zilla UVB light and this happened to Charizard pretty quickly? it seem like I had mine for a while and then all of a sudden he started getting sick from the light.

Just because he says they never get any complaints doesn't mean it's true. The guy could be new and naive or outright lying. I've seen it many times. They're trying to keep you as a customer.

I'm using a zilla desert series as well. My dragon is very young at the moment and I have only had her using this bulb for about a week. I have ordered a new Reptisun bulb that should be here on Monday.

I'm not taking any chances.

Question for you guys, should I take this bulb out and only have her basking light until I get my new reptisun on Monday? I just got the Zilla bulb a week ago from petsmart.

Really makes me mad that they would put out an unsafe product. They need to be more responsible...no excuse for that.
