Have any South African beardie owners on the forum dealt with brumation before? I need information as to when it starts, as mine are both slowing down, although it is only end March now. Is it too early for them to start brumating? We've had a couple of weeks with on/off rain, so temps have dropped a little, but it still averages high 30's during the day time. Any possibility that the rainy weather might have them confused?

I am from Gauteng and I've had my dragons for 6 years now. Not one of them has ever gone into brumation but the weather definitely affects them.

I am certainly very glad to hear that. We've established that ours are indeed slowing down because of coccidia and not the weather.

I'm sorry, I hope they will be better soon.

The weather affects my dragons because they have to stay inside the house on rainy days - they HATE being inside. :x

Spoke to the Craighall vet, and she says that our weather won't get cold enough for them to go into complete brumation. I've had my baby for 3 years now, and I did notice her slowing down a little.

Hope your beardies are all well :)

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
