As it turns out, this is moot now, but if it helps anyone, great. :)

Z has been regular as a clock since I got him early Nov. (except twice when I fasted him to "incentivize" him to eat some greens  ) This week, for the first time ever (I've got a list of the past week's "firsts" for a different post :laughing6: ), he didn't leave me a stinkie for 3 days.

I figured he might be a little bound up from eating a few super worms. No panic or real concern--I figured he'd leave his gift that keeps on giving when the mood struck. He gets this look that says, "I got the urge... the urge to purge"--then he does... purge.

Anyhoo, his behavior has been markedly different the past few days. He's been listless, not basking, not eating, and hiding under his tower. He even slept in hiding. He actually looked like he was in obvious discomfort, which kinda surprised me; I'd always read that reptiles--like some other animals--tend to hide their complaints.

So this morning I gave him a nice warm (95°F) soak for half an hour. Nothing. So I put him back in his enclosure and he just laid there. So I moved him atop his basking tower, and came into my office to get on here. About a half hour later, DW calls in, "You've got a present here--right on the paper towel", which is perfect--he's paper-trained, and apparently felt better enough to come down to make his deposit in the appropriate place. It was GINORMOUS! ? Another "first". I had to take a pic, but I won't gross anyone out by posting it.

He's feeling much better now! :laughing6:

MORAL: When these things happen, don't panic, but do observe. Don't telegraph your fear/concern/stress to the animal; if they can pick up on that, it will only compound their stress. Do the common sense stuff (soak in warm H20, feed fruit or fresh aloe, etc.) and let nature take its course. Contacting a herp vet is a judgment call, so let your best common sense & good judgment guide you. :D

N.B. I assume someone's (perhaps several?) made the porn analogy by now, i.e.
"You can post pictures of sex acts, you just can't spell them out." :? :? :?

He's been basking just like that ever since. He sat up once to stretch/inflate his beard, and inflated the whole throat pouch as well--it made him look a little like a bullfrog (but it was over before I could get the lens cap off the camera. :x )

I was wondering if he might have a sore cloaca after passing that. I thought there would have been more un/semi-digested chiten from the supers, but it looks like his gut did a pretty good job of breaking that down. I'm going to try to limit him to veggies/greens/fruit for a day; he needs the practice on them anyway.

Did this work? My little one only eats the veggies through bait and switch or just plain trickery...

It works, but I'm always hesitant to do it while he's growing, so I give in within a day.

I use bait & switch and trickery as well. Since Z has such a strong feeder/hunting instinct, he'll only eat stuff that moves. If it isn't moving, he won't eat it (he'll watch it for several minutes in case it might move, but then loses interest). However, if he misses his target and gets some salad in his mouth, he'll usually eat it.

What seems to work is cutting the greens up into mouth-sized pieces, and mix them with his bugz. The bugz moving under the greens make the greens move, so he'll go for the movement. Lately he's getting wise, and learning to pick the bugz out from under/between the greens (smart little barstad [sic]).

He's getting better with some greens. If he's hungry enough, he'll eat a few mouthfuls of cilantro or turnip greens. I can only get veggies & fruit into him via wiggling tweezer forceps.

Since he is starting to eat some, I still have hope. As his growth slows, I'll probably try the fasting for longer.

Some of these little guys are just stubborn picky eaters. Fortunately, I can be stubborn too, and I'm smarter than he is  (...or I like to think I am... )

Have you got any different methods/tricks? :)

I am literally doing the same thing. Her hunt/chase instinct is super strong as well(see my Fly in the ointment post).
She falls for the bugs under the salad routine, as long as they don't stop moving. I will take small pieces of veg. roll them up, and twist them around in my fingers. She'll hammer it that way.
She's still teaching me what to do....

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
