I know this shouldn't be a concern but my oldest bearded dragon Leatherface seems to have an addiction to veggies more than meat. He's kind of lazy at the moment and will eat worms either hand fed or right in his face. He's very active otherwise I guess he just thinks come feeding time they should just climb into his mouth or something. But when I put his collared greens and cabbage mix into his cage he jumps on it ASAP. Being so young could this possibly affect his growth? It doesn't seem to be so far. He's getting huge. Also if anyone has any advice as to how to entice him into trying fruit that would be a great help.
update: i keep the veggies in there but not until the afternoon like? around 12ish. that was he gets his morning crickets, which are a pain in the ass because he doesn't go nuts for them like other bearded dragons ive seen. but on the upside he's healthy and happy. he does eat the crickets i put in there but it just takes him a while. heisenberg hunts but only a few at a time. like 6 or 7. kind of makes me nervous even though he looks happy. possibly shedding?
It's great that he's eating veges. Collard greens are especially good, but it's also a good idea to provide a balance. I like to use squash and green beans as well and rotate in some dandelion greens and turnip greens as I can get them. As a growing dragon, he will still need plenty of protein. You can try adding worms to the salads (this is for the opposite reason than usual). If you can get some dubia roaches he may like chasing those around a bit and they are a good protein source. I wouldn't push fruit too much other than as an occasional treat.
thanks for the advice. we were actually thinking about going with phoenix worms. the roaches creep my fiance out. but i'm still pushing for the dubias.
