So I adopted a "throw away" from a breeder two summers ago and was addicted. I just found another beardie on craigs list... yeah for other rescues! My almost-new baby lost his foot when he was younger... I'm thinking about calling him Tripod. He's about 9 months old... aint he cute?
The breeder gave him away because he was missing part of his foot (I think it was a birth defect rather than a nip... but either way, it doesn't change his personality!). So the breeder practically threw him away... and I was the lucky recipient!!
I love the name Tripod!!! If you were counting votes you'd have mine (and Tyson's and Elah's and Nico's!). Good for you for rescuing. That is how we originally wanted to become beardie owners, but we live in such a remote area that it just wasn't happening for us. So we bought one from a breeder and took in 2 whose people were moving over-seas.
Most recent update: the adoption is final for Tripod! I go to pick him up at 6:00 tonight and conveniently enough, we're meeting at a pet store. I need to pick up a few goodies for him... any suggestions on how to minimize relocation stress? The previous owner said Tripod was finicky and didn't eat for several days after moving into a new tank (40 gal breeder). I am a little worried about moving him again. Also, I think he said he only had a 5.0 UVB light that I need to replace.
Any opinions on "moonlight" bulbs? He said he has one from zoomed but i have never used one...
I won’t worry too much; he has never been really loved and cared for as a pet before. I think he will do awesome. I would post something in enclosure about the lights, you’ll get a much quicker response. CONGRALATIONS on a very beautiful Dragon with a very perfect name.
Grumble, grumble gripe gripe. So I got little Tripod last night along with a yucky surprise. 8 pounds of calcisand, an infared heat light, and no UVB. Poor guy. We set him up with tile last night and bought a new heat light. I am heading to the petstore today to get him a UVB light... even with the lack of great care, he is beautiful. He has so much personality- we took him to the hardware store with us to get the tile (it was on the way home from picking him up) and he was checking everything out- it was so funny to watch him give the stink eye to everyone that made a loud noise. What a goof!
May 08 Update: Tripod is thriving! As of about a month ago, he was up to 120 grams (still low, but better!) and about 15 inches long (nose to tail-tip). He is just as active and finicky as any teenager, but thriving now that we don't have calicsand, blue lights and pinkies anymore. Yeah for a successful rescue!
