At the moment I'm using wood chips in my beardie's enclosure, which i have heard isnt the best thing to use and they're also really annoying to clean and replace... However i really like loose substrate as it helps secure the plants and bark i have for him to climb on, and i'm not too keen on using ordinary tiles... So i was wondering if it would be ok to use slate chips in his vivarium with a mix of larger slate tiles? (would also make sure there wouldnt be any really small tiles that he could accidently injest, although do not feed him in his viv). This would be a lot easier to clean and i think would look really nice. Just want to see what other people think before i go ahead and do it, I only want the best for Alfie And if anyone's wondering what i mean, i've included a picture of some smaller slate chips Thanks for any help xx
Bearded dragons like to dig and they like to dig when they are hot and want to cool off. I would say the chips are not safe and would not feel good when they start to dig. I use a surbtance that is made from a local breeder just for dragons. It is odorless and gray with the look like sand. I have been using it for two years with no problem. I would use sand or something soft. Hope this helps. Kim
