My boy TeeBee has some strange black spots on his back that I never noticed until I started giving him baths and recently switched from sand as substrate (I'm thinking that maybe the sand was staining his scales and that's why I never noticed before)
He's still very active, eating well and sleeping fine...
I'm just worried because a lot of the posts I've read about these "freckles" or possible fungus is starting to get to me!
Hi there...Teebee sure is photogenic, nice big smile for his photo shoot. I can understand your concern....it looks suspicious but not really like fungus, but there are different types of fungus so it may be something fungal. You can put some Lamisil cream on those spots and also take him to a vet for a skin scraping. They can test it to see what it is just in case. In the meantime, can you post a few close up shots ? Maybe one while he's in the bath to see how it looks wet [ and you might use a toothbrush gently to see if any comes off ] and also a close up of it dry.
I would actually think it was natural tiger bar markings, that's what it looks like, but they would be on both sides of his body....are there any on the other side of his back ? It also looks like he may have just gotten dirty somehow. Anyway, hopefully it's not serious and your boy will be fine.
I've tried scrubbing gently with a toothbrush but no sign of it coming off
That's the only spot he's got them and my other dragon has none whatsoever!!
I feed them the same things so I don't understand lol
I will try the ointment you suggested and see how that plays out....
I'll have to do some research on vets in the area to see if there's any reptile specialists around!!
Thanks so much <3
It looks a bit like a black fungus....I don't think that is as serious as yellow fungus. Try the Lamisil cream + see if it helps. And if you can find an experienced reptile vet they can take a skin scraping to have it tested.
I could probably ask my family doctor to write me a prescription for it!!
She's super awesome and if I explain the cause she should be more than willing...
With it being Christmas I don't have the extra funds to bring him into a vet immediately or he would have already been there!! Hopefully in the new year I can get him in to see one and get a full check up done...
