Worried About Tail Turning Black

We got a 3 month old beardie from pet store 3 weeks ago. About a week ago, my 10 yr old son noticed skin was peeling off her tail (the upper, thicker part) he peeled it off and kept peeling. He peeled off all the skin on her tail, not knowing better. He brought her to me and said her lower tail was bleeding. I saw tiny drops of some fluid and wiped it off. A day or two later the lower half of her tail started turning a dark color and it has darkened over the last few days. It also has a kink in it. Will it heal? Does it need to be amputated? Anything I can do to help her heal?

Tteat it with raw unpasteurized honey. Or Manuka honey. I'd take her to a vet

Hello,

So sorry this happened. Definitely treat the area with raw unpasteurized honey on the entire portion that is damaged & vulnerable. At night, be sure that there are no loose bugs inside her tank that would be attracted to the honey.
Taking her to a vet for analysis would be a good idea.

I hope she is able to heal up quickly!

Okay I treated with regular honey and I am having manuka honey delivered from whole foods today and will treat with that from now on. There are no live insects in the terrarium. Thanks for the suggestions. Please let me know if anyone has other suggestions.

Took her to the veterinarian and got some cream. Vet said she will likely recover except maybe the very tip. Also said she is a he! Thanks all.

Hello,

That is good news! I hope the cream helps it to heal up. Let us know how the progress is coming
along. She is a he, well, at least you know now!

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
