Worked on the new pond filter a bit today.

In testing phase now. Old light fixture from a Boeing shop, old canning pot filled with 3d printer waste plus a foam filter, couple 3d printed parts and voila!

A sunfish showed up outta the blue? That's cool, those lil buggeres can live just about anywhere. You needcto find it a mate. (That's providing you want sunfish )

Guessing it hitchhiked as an egg or fry in one of the plant collections. I really need that pond for the baby goldfish lol The plan is to net it out and put it in the lake / pond at the nature park where I assume I picked it up.

Need to clean more outflow media to add and contemplating adding a couple small bags of sand to the filter. But it is technically functional now, just probably 1/2 capacity which is still well beyond what is needed for this. It's intended as a longer term setup for a larger stock tank as the goldfish grow larger. Not to say I don't already have a couple monsters lol The black and orange koi patterned one is pushing 10 inches long and probably 6-7 inches wide. Big male.

Watching it with nothing in the outflow and seeing the water moving like a stream has me rethinking things slightly. I think the center is getting a mix of gravel, rocks and sand. The outer upper edge will be a more fine gravel with sand then where there is currently red lava rocks will get a layer of sand then soil. The edges will be planted with willow, violets and strawberries. The middle section with flow will have elodea and a couple larger rocks to move the flow a little bit to make the elodea move like in nature.
More work now, but it will be a bog filter with a replaceable pre filter so I won't have to clean the media in the tray annually.
