Hi all of suden Thug will not eat his dusted rep cal crickets? He is fine with the undusted but will selectivly eat around the dusted ones. Any ideas? Little worried he is not getting his calcium. His poop has the same amount of whiteness in it so I know he is getting it. Im wondering due to the little bit bigger cricket he knows he is getting to much? He eats around 6 in the morning should I dust may be 4 of them due to being bigger?
sunshine went through a stage with no dusted ones, i laid off them a week or two, and she went back top eating them
do not worry for that time period about not enough calcium. they dont get dusted crickets in the wild. i would be more concerned with getting him to eat his crickets as protien, but still try the dusting.
Well to talk on the back end for a sec he always had a calcium white tip then...Im assuming thats the left over that the body didnt want. He was not filling up on his little crickets so a pet shop has med crickets so I went to them and of course larger crickets means higher dose of calcium. Thats what my thinking is.
He is more than happy to gobble up all the non dusted he eats may be one or two dusted if I really lightly dust them. I did that this morning but left 3 others. Fast foward to lunch (he is getting crickets 3 times a day) and he gobles them all up (I only dust in the morning).
He just started eating his squash but im hesitant to dust the salad and crickets (I dont want to turn him off on eating salad) if he already is rejecting the crickets. You know what I mean?
My 15 month old is also pickier with dusted bugs. I have a trick for that though!
Dust just the bottom side of the cricket so the white barely shows or doesnt at all. You can do this by putting some calcium in a container and picking up the cricket between your fingers and dragging the bottom of the cricket through the dust. The cricket will look un-dusted and your dragon will likely eat it with no problems. This works for me.
Hes eating them agian, I tried just doing the bottom thats hard work ha ha. He ate those so that method works . I just cut the dusted crickets down on the first feeding to 4 med crickets dusted and he seemed to be ok with that now. So I will adjust the calcium intake as he gets bigger.
Funny how they know...Thanks for the feed back.
