Will a bearded dragon bask during brumation?

Beardie name(s)
Rocky/Rawrky
My bearded dragon has not been eating, however, he has been basking almost all day. Is this normal for brumation? It is his normal time to start brumating, but I always thought beardies try to avoid sunlight while they do (I don't remember what mine usually does)
I will also point out that he just got off syringe feeding from a previous problem he had. He hasn't ate his normal food since, though.

No dragons do not bask if in full brumation -- they will however do a semi brumation which consist of sleeping for a week or so then come out to bask -- maybe eat a little - mine is not eating a lot at this time and spending time between the basking side and cool side of the tank - I have offered salads and hes not touching them and eating a few super worms at time when offered -- why were you syringe feeding him? How long did you do that for? Are you using a long tube fixture for a UVB and are your surface basking temps being taken w/ a digital probe thermometer?

Hello,

Most of the time no, if they are truly brumating they usually don't bask much at all. If they are only partially
brumating then they may have the tendency to come out & bask every so often.
Just be sure that he is maintaining his weight & not losing weight. Why was he getting syringe fed, did he
have a previous illness?

Hi, sorry for the wait. Yeah, he was having constipation issues. He eventually did poop at the end of the week of feeding, so it was supposed to be safe to start feeding him normally, but then he started not eating as I said in the post

I syringe-fed him for a little more than a week due to constipation issues. My UVB is one of the coil ones. I'm planning to change it after my tank upgrade, but it wouldn't make sense for that to be the problem as far as I know since he had that his whole life

Coils are a health hazard and it should be replaced immediately-- your dragon is not getting any UVB unless your taking him outside for direct sunlight-- correct UVB is crucial to the overall health of the dragon -- if you want I can post 3 good UVB's for you w/ links to get this replaced --

These are all 24" fixtures good for tanks 40 + gallon
Zoo Med comes w/a 5.0 bulb you want a 10.0 T5 bulb posting link also
they are out of the 24" but the 30" will work takes the same bulb 22"
Arcadia ProT5 12% UVB Bulb With Hood you want the 24"
Sunblaster Nano Tech you will need to change the bulb out to the one posted above and get the 2 ft / 24"
your screen on the tank is going to determine the placement and distance for the UVB please post back on here when you get it -- I would get this ordered as soon as possible your dragon is getting sicker as each day passes w/ out it

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
