I've been searching around to find Phoenix a "Christmas present", since he's been a moderately good boy these past few months I've had him... Except for yesterday when he decided to scare the living crap out of his dad (My bf) and tried to jump out of his viv  . I guess Noah was going to give him a snack and Phoenix got over excited and tried to jump from his cage into the container his food was in...luckily Noah caught him. I think Phoenix bullies him while I'm at work because he doesn't spoil him as much as I do  I'm considering starting him a thread or an instagram to log his adventures Not completely sure on that yet..
Anywhoooo...ebay has some of the worst search queries I have ever witnessed  I type in "desert viv décor" or something amongst those lines and I usually get about 10 search results of what I'm looking for & the rest is just random stuff (where the hell do you get "fairy garden décor" out of the word DESERT?! ! ) I'm resorting to online shopping as I kind of want some unique décor if possible & I've literally bought almost all the décor I like from our local pet store as well... What are some places you guys use to buy your hides, logs, rocks, plants, backgrounds ect? So far I like Josh's frogs but I'm sure there's some hidden gems I'm missing. We are trying to start a Aztec/Mayan ruins them in his viv, but we may be switching the theme as he's starting to outgrow some of his stuff and that "theme" isn't too easy to find. ..
I bet etsy would have some really cool stuff
I personally built my background and everything out of styrofoam, GreatStuff, paint, and mod podge, and am really happy the way it turned out. Also try craft stores, they might have some cool stuff, just make sure it's safe. Also, look at this thread, it's AWESOME! viewtopic.php?f=34&t=66704
I always forget about etsy! I've never even used them for personal pleasure, ill have to check them out. I am in the process of making him a "platform" out of that really thick blue Styrofoam you use for like insulating and such. I have it carved out , I just need to get a grout, paint and sealer to finish it off. I'll have to upload my blueprint later to show you guys a better visualization of what id like to do with his home. I don't want to put too much work into it as he is only 4-5 months old and is going to outgrow his stuff quickly, he's in a 40 gal tank but I have a feeling he's gonna need at least a 60 by the time he's done growing.
I've heard if you can find some logs that aren't full of holes (dang crickets)... you can bake them and put those in their viv? Is that so and if it is how would I go about doing that? Also I heard to watch out for mites and such, is that the main purpose behind baking them?
Yes baking them kills anything that is living in the log. These logs were to big to fit in the oven so I boiled water and dumped it over them to kill all the bugs. Plus I don't think to many things live in drift wood since it is so dead and dried our already. But I might be wrong about that.
I collect my rocks + logs from outside as well. I have quite a few nice ones that fit in my oven to bake for an hour. Just be careful that they don't touch the heating elements + possibly catch fire.
