When to Upgrade Enclosure

Good afternoon, y'all!

Currently, both my beardies are in their own 20 Gallon. One is in a 30 x 12 x16, and the other is in a 30 x 12 x 12.

I want to do custom melamine enclosures, but do build 2 4x2x2 enclosures, it's going to run me about $500. I was thinking of upgrading them to second hand 40 gallon breeders (36 x 18 x 16), which can be found on FB Marketplace for around $40, first, then when they outgrow the 40 gallon breeder, upgrade them to the 4x2x2.

My question is, at what length should they be moved to a 40 Gallon, then at what size should they move to a 4x2x2?

By the time they are a year old-- 16" high tanks are hard to get and manage temps in the tank -- FYI-

A year old into a 40, or a year old into a 4x2?

I have no issue managing temps currently in my 30 x 12 x 16

They should be in a 40 by about 6 moths or so. I start mine in a 40.

4x2x2-- 18" high or 24" is recommended

I wish I could have. Money was the limiting factor. Didn't even think about FB until we already had our little friends

Yes-- websites can be posted for the 4x2x2

Here in Germany there is actually a law that says to take the lenght between snout and vent of the animal and times that by 5 for lenght, by 4 for width and by 3 for height of the enclosure.
Mine have both been in a 210Gal from the get go.
