Hey everyone, so my 5-year-old beardie, Sunny, has some very long nails. I've been taking care of beardies for a while now, and ALWAYS clipped only the black part of the nail just before it touches the white part. I'm wondering, what is the safe (by safe I mean not hurting the animal, in any way) length to clip his nails?
Judging by the pictures there's no excess to cut off. If you were to cut them you would be cutting off whatever amount of nail is past the under whiter part, which is sort of like a cuticle I guess, which at this point the cuticle appears to end at the tip of the nail, so there's nothing to cut.
You can use emery board or something slightly rough to dull them though if need be. If you have a rock, tile or any rougher decor in the enclosure the beardies will usually scratch at it on their own.
