I kept hearing about the feeding routine changing from 80/20 to 20/80, but ours seemed to come on almost overnight.
I have a couple questions about that...
Our dragon is about a year old now. He seemed to have started self regulating himself, and I thought it was because he was sick, or because he swallowed a pebble (for anyone who remembers that post).
But now, I think it was just that he is getting older, and is pretty much full grown. He is pooping just fine, and seems alert and temps are good. But he now only eats protein every other day...and not a lot of it.
So, on the 20/80 diet that they change to, is that usually adjusted weekly/monthly? Or is it daily? In other words, do they eat much fewer feeders daily, or do they eat less feeders weekly or on a monthly basis? Or is it different for every dragon?
Rin eats salads daily, and most days, it's either entirely gone or he has picked through what he likes and tosses the rest around. But he seems completely content to not eat any feeders for a day or two, then eats several on the next day.
This may just be a mood/phase. The changeover, as far as I've seen, happens gradually. I never regulated the 80/20 too much. I just make fresh salad available all the time and offer 10 min of feeders once a day.
Thanks Cooper.
I don't think I posted my question very well.
When they start to (gradually or not) switch over to eating less protein, do people notice that they eat feeders every other day, or is t just that they eat less feeders per day?
Today Rin ate about 20 dubia, but Ive noticed a pattern with him in the past month, that he eats feeders about every other day, even though we offer them to him daily.
So, I was just curious as to how other adult dragons eat feeders, since I have never experienced having an adult dragon before, so I don't have much to go by.
