hi everyone! I'm new to beardies, have had my baby for about 3 months now and its getting to that time of year it starts getting cold. I live in northern WI and some nights during the winter my apartment drops below 65. I'm Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what size CHE bulb you are using to compensate. I have a 40 gallon tank. I was thinking about getting a 60W but depending on the night i feel it won't be enough.
I use a 100 watt CHE on my two 120 gallon tanks that keeps them at 70 during the winter time - I usually leave them on 24/7 during winter and I live in MN-- my tanks are not glass they are Zen Habitats --

I've found that the lower wattage bulbs tend to produce plenty of heat, even in winter. I prefer the heat projector bulbs over a CHE because they produce the heat without getting nearly so hot to the touch. The MegaRay brand has been hard to find lately, but Arcadia makes one that is similar. I'd imagine the 50w is enough, but you could use either one on an on/off or pulse thermostat so it just kicks in as needed. I have mine set to kick on at 65 and turn off at 73 overnight.
