What time of Thermometer should I get?

I currently have a stick on thermometer on each side of Dex's tank and know that this is not the best type  . Before I run out an buy a probe type I wanted to see if there was something better ( I think I read in a post somwhere about a temp gun?) what is a temp gun and how does it work? If the probe type is the best way to go, what is the best one to use... are there some with 2 probes, one for each side of the tank?

Here's a picture of a mini temp gun that works great, just point & shoot but can't get reading through glass or screen of course. You should be able to read about how it works here. http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/thermometers-thermostats-and-timers/-/infrared-temperature-gun/

Here's a pic of a a digital with probe that you can find at Walmart for about $12.00 and you will get both readings, cool & basking in same 45 min timeframe.

I have both of these exact ones and use them both. If you want a quick reading, the temp gun does a job but I feel it's a good idea to double check with the probe thermometer once in a while.

Hi there a little update we went from a 50 watt heat lamp to a 100 watt basking halogen heat lamp hahaha I saw some comments about it being so close so I made sure to put it a ruler away from her
Has anyone seen this before? Something in the corner of his mouth
