That's great that you ordered the bulb and are getting the fixture soon too. Have you given anymore thought about going to Walmart or ordering the AcuRite probe thermometer from Amazon? I can't stress enough how important accurate temps are.

I also wanted to mention that a 150 watt ceramic heat emitter seems like a lot of wattage for a 40 gallon tank. Beardies need it cooler at night and I think the 150 would make it too hot. I use a 60 watt in a 40 gallon breeder and it seems to be the right temp.

Yes, but since I'm strapped for cash atm,i figured the uvb was prolly the most important for right now. You think I could put a 75 watt light bulb in for the heat source and just turn it off at night? The heat emitters are expensive. :-/

Wait are u using the heat emitter during the day? You should have a UVB Bulb, a basking bulb and then the ceramic heat emitter should only be used @ night.. During the day they need a basking bulb.. Whether you use a reptile basking bulb or u can use a household bulb for that..

Yeah, I just have the che on all the time and then the uvb during the day. He's fine at night with the che and sleeps well but during the day is covered in stress marks except for when I bathe him or let him explore.

You really need to get him a basking bulb for during the day.. Go to walmart and get an indoor flood bulb or spot light bulb.. The small ones are like $6... I use the GE 45w flood bulb.. You would probably need maybe a 60w.. My cousin has the 20 gallon long tank and he uses a 50w.. Just keep the receipt and take it back if u need to.. When they are dark like that and look constantly stressed they are usually trying to absorb heat.. Not having the right basking bulb and right temp for them on the basking spot can cause improper digestion..

Ok. So what should I do for him at night? I don't want him to be too hot. Although night time seems to be the only time he doesn't have stress marks.

So I guess ny question is, if I use the flood bulb during the day, does he still need the che at all?

Well it really depends on what the temps are @ night.. Once u turn his basking light off I would wait a an hour or two and see what the temps are in the viv and then decide if u wanna turn on the CHE.. If its still cold out where u live I would turn it on.. Another thing u really should invest in is the digital thermometer with the probe that way you can monitor temps directly on his basking spot..

Yoshi's been creamy belly since he woke up and his poop had some undigested carrots from when I was trying to sneak in greens, so I'm thinking the uvb is the issue most likely. But it should be arriving any day now.

Usually if u see undigested food that means they either aren't basking enough or they arent getting hot enough when they bask.. So once ur able to get the basking bulb in there that shouldn't be a problem..

Well I just tried feeding him crickets and he showed no interest at all. So now I'm worried again. :(

Do you think he's just clearing out the undigested food? I've tried feeding him on and off all day and he still won't eat. I got the new uvb in as well as a light bulb for basking and he's been creamy belly all day. But he won't eat. What should I do? :dontknow:

Relax and breathe! Sometimes they go off food for a day or two. But now that Yoshi is under the uvb you should notice an increase in his appetite within a few days. Also, since you added a basking bulb, he'll be much happier. It is a natural instinct for them to look for light and bask under it being diurnal creatures and all so I am really happy you got that squared away.

Wait him out a few days and I bet he'll be eating again. Right now only my females are eating, weird right? No idea why the boys are being such pouty pants but if I don't drag them out in the am, they will hide all day. My boys are being very high maintenance right now!

You are in good shape. Try not to worry too much, although I am a worrier by nature so I know how you feel!

Well he ate about ten crickets, although normally he eats more. :? He slept all night in a t-shirt burrito after I cuddled him to sleep last night. But when he woke up this morning, he turned back to dark colors and stress marks again. I put him on his basking log twice, but he keeps going back under it. :banghead:

I'm getting frustrated cuz I thought the lighting change was what made him creamy belly and bright colored and basked all day yesterday but now he's back to hiding and looking like he did when I had the wrong lighting.
