so my little Boggle is well aware of the wide world outside of his house.
he's 4.5 months old, doesn't run from my hand, lets me pick him up etc... and when i am sitting next to him with his door open he happily jumps out onto the sofa (or floor on a couple of occasions but thankfully landed ok) and actually often seems like he wants out so he can explore outside.
the thing is - once he is outside he runs and jumps about like an absolute NUTTER.
he will happily sit in my hand, or snuggle on my chest under a blanket for like half an hour - but i know the whole time he is there he is really just plotting some crazy scheme.
and sure enough, like a coiled spring, BOING and he goes loopy!
he seems to be utterly obsessed with jumping over the back of the sofa, i have no idea what he thinks is over there but he will be massively disappointed when he finally makes it.
he seems to think he can fly, and going by some of the huge jumps i've seen him do, who am i to say he can't!
so after all that, what i wanted to ask is what sort of age do these crazy little guys calm down a bit and just come out and be all like yeah i'm just gonna sit here and watch telly??
i don't want him to grow up too fast - i just want him to enjoy the outside world without worrying about him taking flying leaps all over the place!
How do you keep 'em down on the farm once they've seen Paree? :laughing6:
I go through the same every time I take ZaRDoZ out for some taming time.
In the wild, they jump off fence posts & out of trees, but I expect they may (or may not, depending) have something softer (like undergrowth) to land on, but I expect at times they may also hit rocks. Honestly, they're so fecund that Nature may not have entirely thought that through :dontknow: so we have to watch out for them.
They're individuals, so some may never calm down entirely. :dontknow: I'm OK either way.
He is just being curious. Enjoy it as much as you can keep him safe =). Generally they tend to slow down as they reach adulthood at around 18-24 months but that varies greatly. Some of them have calm personalities and some of them are just wired. My guy is 5 now and has been a ball of energy most of the time. I have tried to accommodate him as much as possible by setting up portable basking spots in the house and letting him free roam when I'm at home. Not everyone is able to do that though so do the best you can to let him explore and burn off energy if that's what he seems to want.
Their behavior and activity levels tend to be cyclical. Even my adult is very curious and highly energetic at times. There are plenty of phases to enjoy and the curiosity and activity levels are in their nature and not necessarily gone for good. Just gone for now =)
