Other than the fact that they can carry salmonella what else can bearded dragons carry that can harm me.
And more specifically my little man was being feisty when I was cleaning his cage about 3 hours ago and scratched my arm and I was wondering what could happen if he scratched me with his nails...
I've been raising dragons for 6 years & have never had anything happen from scratches or just picking them up. I've heard about the salmonella, but I've never had any type of disease passed along to me & being diabetic I'm tested constantly. So I wouldn't worry about that, but to be on the safe side, wash your hands before and after picking your dragon up & treat your scratch with hydrogen peroxyde and polysporin. That would be the best things to do to make sure you stay healthy.
Washing your hands with hot soapy water before and after handling your dragon will indeed help. It's rare for adults to be affected by it and it's normally transmitted from bad food, not dragons. I've never had a problem, but just to be safe, make sure you do that & you should be just fine.
