And finally, to complete our family, let me please introduce Joseph.
Joseph was bought at petsmart by a young girl who felt pitty on him because he had part of his tail bitten off. She was diligent in cleaning out his sand and feeding him dry pellets. He was a piece of jewelry she could fondly wear around the house.Almost 8 months later, Joseph began to his at her and try to bite her. Needless to say, she became afraid of him. Now, he lives with me.
His feet and tail are stained a deep orange from the sand, and he is very under weight. Very active though. And yes, he hissed at me. Anyawys, here are some pics for the moment
It's a little disheartening right now. Joseph hisses, flares his beard, and charges when someone puts their hand in the cage. When he went black, half of his body and his beard went black. Also, black stripes showed up on his head. I just hope he gets used to us. Are the males always more aggressive towards people?
My guy stubs ( named that because he too had a big chunk of his tail missing when we bought him, prolly as much as your guy or a tiny bit more ). He can be a little grumpy, especially in the morning, he has hissed at me and he will open his mouth at me but has never bitten (yet) he only does this when he is in his cage, but never the less it still hurts that he does it cause I love him and am giving him a good life and he still feels the need to become defensive at times....sorry I wasn't much help, hopefully it is just hormones and relocation stress.
He is still very dark. The only time he lightens up is in the bath after he has quit trying to jump out. The pics shown are the brightest he has been since living here. It's funny ... when he gets angry or upset, his brow darkens, just like in literature.
He has some pretty colors for a beardie that originally came from Petsmart. Nice find.
It might take a while, since you don't know what caused him to start acting grumpy. Is there some food that he really, really likes that maybe he could only get when he's with you?
He likes everything except pokey salad... like kale. He would eat mealworms, waxworms, crickets, and dubia roaches all day if I let him. But. He only eats salad when I'm not looking.
