I’m not sure if my reply posted, but i feel so terrible and scared now that she is going to die from that. I had no idea, she didn’t even ask me, we’re not allowed inside the office “due to covid” she just called me when she was done checking her out and said she gave the enema because she seemed “blocked up”. I’m so nervous now. It’s very hard to find a good exotic vet around here there’s only 2 that come up when you google. I live on Long Island , if anyone knows a reputable one please let me know.I'm not sure what the blob is but please don't let the vet do enemas on your beardie, it can have tragic consequences. Pretty much everyone here will tell ya the same. It maybe that the blod is a side effect. I'll tag Drache613 she is a vet tech.
@Drache613
Wow, enema because she "seemed" blocked up. That's terrible. An enema should be a last ditch effort for severe impaction and even then I'd rather skip the enema and go for surgery if possible. Using an enema on a whim shows this vets lack of understanding of specialized beardie care. Lack of refined knowledge and providing treatments without consent would have me looking for a new vet right away. Ask your local herpetological society for the vet they recommend for beardies. In my experience nobody's gonna know the best vet for your species better then the local herpetological society.I’m not sure if my reply posted, but i feel so terrible and scared now that she is going to die from that. I just contacted multiple places and looked online at the website that was given above ^ and there is no vets near me that are good for beardies. I’m at a loss of what to do. I’m so scared for my girl right now. This is supposed to be an “exotic vet that specializes in reptiles” and I’m highly disappointed and disgusted after hearing this now.Wow, enema because she "seemed" blocked up. That's terrible. None came up.I'm so sorry you're going through this. Try this website arav.org to find a vet that is certified in reptile care specifically.
Long Island Herpetological Society this is your local herpetological society. Shoot them an email. They will know all the local vets and send you in the correct direction. I always recommend the local herp society over arav.None came up.I’m at a loss. Thank you. I am so scared and feel so guilty. I wish we never brought her in
Thank you so much. I emailed them and hoping to get a response soon. I really appreciate everyone’s responses.Long Island Herpetological Society this is your local herpetological society. Absolutely agree. It’s sad that most are just money hungry. I mean it cost us over $200 just for the exam and an unnecessary enema. I understand exotic vets may be more because of the knowledge they should have but I’m really fed up now. I just really hope my little girl is okay. I’m heart broken thinking about losing her. Thank you for the replyDon't feel guilty, it's not your fault. Just like people doc's we are supposed to be able to trust our vets. I think i have offended a few here, but I'm really down on vets. At the end of the day a veterinarian hospital is a business and goal #1is revenue. I know there are good vets but not all vets are good and other than word of mouth i have no idea how to distinguish the 2. I think Lobretto has the best advice and thats probably your best chance to find a vet you can trust.
UPDATE: so we still don’t know what that is that she pooped out, i wanted to email our amazing (sarcastic) vet and hear their thoughts, but they haven’t given me a call back with their email address. But our peachy girl has been eating much more today and seems more active than she’s been the last week or so. I’m really hoping the enema didn’t hurt her and that she’s slowly becoming better. We gave her some repashy (very small amount) and i got some crickets to see if she would chase after them , she did. She went right after them and scarfed them down. Still can’t get her to eat her veggies, i tried putting the repashy on top, i got some bee pollen, as well as a mix of herbs from our local reptile store and sprinkled those on top; she eats the flowery topping but snubs her greens still. Next I’m going to try and make a slurry and see if she’s interested in that. And yes we have tried switching up the greens we’ve tried almost everything they can eat lol. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the replies and suggestions. Will keep you posted in a few days on how she’s doing again.View attachment 72290
So we recently found out our beardie was a girl due to having to bring her back to our vet for the first time since we first got her. The vet visit was because she hadn’t pooped in a couple days as well as wasn’t eating normally for about a week or so. The vet gave her an enema and said she should be fine nothing else seemed concerning to her. It’s been about a week since she was there and she still hasn’t been eating barely anything, hasn’t touched her greens in weeks which she used to scarf down. (I’ve tried changing it up giving her several different kinds of fruits and veggies & she won’t eat any of it.) i called them to let them know and they said it could just be hormonal and to give it another week then bring her back in. We put her in the bath today, which we normally do to get her to poop, and she pooped normally but this strange blob of white came out with the middle being a hard lump of whiteish yellowish. I’ve never seen her poop this out before so it immediately concerned me. Has anyone ever seen this before ?
