Well the saying, "it only takes once" is very true in this house hold. about 4 weeks ago we had Loki and Lily out playing and next thing we noticed was Loki mounting Lily... Oops!
Jump ahead in time I noticed she was getting fatter and fatter but thought she was just eating like a pig and then a couple of days ago I was holding her and felt the eggs.
I ordered an incubator right away and it should be here Monday but the problem is we leave early Monday for a few days so I need a "Plan B".
She just buried her eggs in the egg laying box:
Right now my idea is to mix up the vermiculite in some tupperware containers and drill some air holes in the lids. Carefully move the eggs from the sand into the containers with vermiculite and then place the containers into the laying box which is holding a temp of 82 to 85.
They would need to be in there until Friday, do you think this will work?
Let me know if you think my temporary incubator will work for the first few days or not, the only thing I am worried about is the screen on the top of the laying box.
My other thought was to put another container on top covering the light and the screen to keep the humidity in.
If the temp. is in the low to mid 80's, the eggs will be fine. No need to try to raise it at all. They would even be O.K. in the high 70's for a while.
