Wow. A very high standard in beardie homes has been set by on this forum for us newbies! I have set up a tank for our new arrival - I hope to get my kids a beardie this weekend so have been diligently reading books, YouTube, discussions etc. this forum has been fantastic. So I would like feedback on if I have "done good" - cuz if not I have some time to do some fixin' before we get a beardie. I will add pictures as I figure out how to post them ("newbie" goes well beyond just having a lizard as a pet for the first time!) Basking area is 106.6 f from a100w ZooMed basking lamp. I am using a Reptile sun 10.0 UVB 18" tube. I have had to add a 75w zoomed basking lamp to raise the temp in the "cool"side of the tank from71 f to 81f. But do I need shade? Does my beardie to be need a hide or does it take up too much room - ie. will he need more free floor space for "run room". The tank itself is a 36"w by 19" deep by 20" tall glass tank with sliding front doors and screen mesh in the front(small) and the whole top. I am tracking the temps with ZooMed digital thermometer with probes. I have a large bowl (water or should I use it as a "dig pit" and fill it with something like millet?" And a small bowl (food). I expect we will get a 4 month-ish beardie and switch bowl purposes (due to size) after he is about a year. I wish we had room for a bigger tank but we are size constrained (and I can't find the smaller Rankins Dragons in Canada). Most of our supplies are repurposed off kijiji so I don't think I did too bad for our space size and budget. Substrate is carpet (new !) but may change to tile while he is younger. Would LOVE feedback and suggestions for improvement before our beardie comes! We anticipate misting food/beardie each day (they might like dryness but our part of the world rivals Oz! And hardwood flooring sucks up the rest :D ) and bathing weekly. (Ok I can't figure out how to get a picture on here - any suggestions/links? I am using my iPad or iPhone for my photo...). Thanks muchly!
