Help!!! Violent head thrashing (seizure?) and hacking/ coughing. Looked in his throat, nothing there. Light coughing the last few days, made appointment with vet, but they can't see him until tomorrow. Suddenly got much worse after they closed. Beard is pitch black, tail is dark, ears look dark, rest of his body is lighter than normal (it does look like he might shed soon). Head thrashing side to side violently fast. Happened twice, didn't get it on video. Emergency vet can't see beardies. I'm so scared he is choking or going to stop breathing overnight!
Background: Toothless is a 8 year+ rescue. Metabolic bone disease and general malnutrition when we got him 7 years ago. One of his legs grew in twisted. No health problems since except for a seminal plug last month (vet removed it). He has barely been eating (a few worms and almost no veggies) and having fewer bowel movements (3 in the last 4 weeks) for several weeks. Vet thought it was the seminal plug and that he would gradually return to normal.
Diet: daily butternut squash and collard greens. Other fruit and veg mixed in on rotation, but he picks around it. 3 Super worms or meal worms dusted in Ca powder 2 times a week, multivitamin powder once a week. He has been refusing crickets for the last 5 years.
Environment: Reptisun UVB 10.0 (replaced annually), daytime heat lamp over basking rock, night time ceramic infrared heat lamp. Temp ranges from 80-high 90s F. Humidity 30-40. Screenshot of the monitor attached. Substrate is a rough turf material. Has a hammock and a 'cave' under his rock. Bath and full tank cleaning once a week, occasionally more warm soaks throughout the week. He spends about an hour outside his tank during feeding a few times a week and explores the house.
I'm attaching a healthy picture for color/appearence comparison. He has been in full UV all day in the pic and video.
Please give share any experience or advice you have. The whole family is distraught over his condition.
