I'm in a bit of a bind. I have a couple options. I will be out of state during spring break and taking beardie with isn't an option courtesy of the parents. I can have the local pet store board Smurf, or I can have a local guy I know from school look after him. The pet store is a little local place, no nationwide chain. They are more knowledgeable than the national chains that just want you to buy something, but they don't know reptiles very well. Tom, the local guy I know, has very little experience as well, with snakes. He also works at the pet store. I am leaning towards the pet store because there are multiple people with limited experience versus Tom with the same amount of experience. Plus the food would be on site, as well as other supplies that might need to be purchased. What should I do?
I would probably teach my friend tom some information about your beardie. You will have the lights, the food and all of that. so all he will have to do is turn the lights on/off, feed him, and probably clean the viv...
How i first got interested in beardies was a friend asked me to beardie sit, she typed up what i needed to know, like when to turn the lights on /off, when to feed, what to feed, what to clean the viv with...she provided her babys house to me so that it was her own, to limit the stress... just wanted to throw that out atcha... let us know how everything works out
I left a poster board with everything my hubby and daughter would need to take care of the beardies while me and my youngest went on a 3 week vacation to OK. I started from the first thing i do and all day long i wrote everything down as i did it. If your beardie has special needs or likes/dislikes something wright that down as well. I would call home to check on them just in case they had a question.
I bought a timer, pre-bagged salad (1per day I was to be gone) and showed my friend how much calci-dust to use and about how many crix were needed, went ok he did leave the poop from the last 2 days but Pyro managed. Hope this helped.
