Just wondering how u get ur UVB 4-8 inches away from the beardie yet still running alongside ur basking bulb? because surely then he/she will be too close to the basking bulb and will be too hot? i know some people run the UVB along the bottom of the viv, but then is he not getting the heat and uvb at the same time? just wondering because i have a MVB bulb at the moment.
your MVB IS your uvb bulb. you won't need a flourescent tube unless you want to add extra lighting, in which case you don't need to worry about its placement.
*edit* if you were talking about switching to a two bulb setup, then a lot of people take measures to lower the tube light by a few inches to overcome this obstacle.
Also just wondering, might sound a bit of a stupid question but does a 48" tube fit inside a 4ft wooden vivarium including the light starter kit clipped onto the ends of the tube? or am i better off with a 36" tube for a 4ft tank.
Gary, you would need to use the 36" fixture unless you can disassemble the fixture and only use the receptacle ends, even that would be tight.
What issues are you having with your MVB ? Too hot ? Can you raise the MVB out of the enclosure ? Add a few more vents, perhaps ? I love both my MVBs ( Megas) But planned my vivs expecially for those. 39" and 41" tall respectively .

yeh its giving about 107-110 tops, but he never seems to bask much and is usually at the cool end lying under his bark, the cool side is about 86. I have a hole cut out the roof of my viv and just screw an old wire rack under it for the lamp to sit on rather than hav a fitting screwed underneath the roof. So the megaray is about 17 inches away , I removed 2 of the vent( 2 top ones) so i dont know how to cool it down at the cool end anymore. the only thing i could do is stick some dvd boxes under the roof to raise it even though it looks hideous or go back to like a 75w with a new reptisun (which i kina grudge doing for the sake of a few degrees to hot).
Do me a favor.... got a picture of this viv ? Perhaps I can help you "tweek" things a bit so that MVB works out... I'd hate for you to have to put it aside, since it is such a marvelous light....

heres a pic of the tank and what i did with the dome. its about 17" away from "basking area" lol. not bothered to do it up until i get the temps right.
PS. and the only reason the wood chips are there is because my mum did it when she cleaned my tank out when i was on holiday.
