We just purchased a larger UVB light (24in. Reptisun 10) for our dragon, we have a 50 gallon tank. We read on these forums that Wal-mart had a black light fixture which could be used for the UVB light (a LOT cheaper!). We put it together and it works and fits great, but we're a little skeptical about setting the fixture and light directly on top of the screen. Is it ok to just have the light right on the screen in regards of safety? Or is there a better solution to setting it up? Thanks!
Setting the lighting fixture directly on the screen should be fine. Fluorescents don't generate enough heat to be an issue. It's the light they output that's important.
