We are in the process of setting up our tank for our first dragon which will arrive in a couple weeks. We purchased a sunblaster with reflector housing and a reptisun 10.0 T5-HO bulb. Everything I have read indicates that with a reflector I should be a minimum of 8" from bulb/reflector to basking spot. I can not achieve this with the housing mounted in the enclosure. I've also read that due to the superiority of the 10.0 t5 I can place it above my SS mech screen and it will still provide enough UVB. Am I correct in this assumption, we want to make sure we are doing this right and everything is set up before our little friend gets here.
With that combination it's usually recommended to set it at about 12-14'' above the main basking area. If you mount it on a mesh top, that will reduce the output a bit (depends on how fine the mesh is) so it may be better at 8-10'' or so.
